Can the body live on sunlight alone?  This is not a new concept. But, real life Barbie Valeria "Amatue" Lykyanova is sparking new interest in this age-old belief.

As you may already know the sun provides the human body with vitamin D, but can it really take the place of traditional food and satisfy your hunger?  Lykyanova, among others, seems to think so.
"I love all living things, so I do not eat the meat. I eat only fruits and my ultimate goal is to be powered by solar energy, that is a complete rejection of food," Lykyanova explains of her desire to transfer from raw vegan to solar energy food alone.
Sunny days are usually associated with happiness, hope, and overall smooth sailing through life. A day at the beach every now and again feels great, however many people believe it necessary to limit their skin to sun exposure. And even more do not stare directly into the sun for minutes on end from fear of the "damaging" effect of sun rays to the eyes.

A shocking documentary, Eat the Sun, explores the physical, spiritual, and emotional effects of using the sun as food for energy.  Eat the Sun looks at the lives of different individuals who chose to live as sun gazers and as a result, claimed to have a tremendous amount of energy, weight loss, and other health benefits all while experiencing little to no appetite for digestible food.  If this claim seems outlandish, let me assure you that this practice is far from new age.

Sun gazing has been practiced by South East Asians for almost 2600 years.  These early sun gazers believed that the pineal gland controlled the body systems in regulating health aided by sunlight.      Light gazing has been linked to improving depression, sleep, and even eyesight. Also, sun gazers have expressed developing no appetite for "regular" food after being recharged by sun food. This belief/practice is known as breatharianism, which means living off of light.

To learn more about sun food as an energy source you should pick up a copy of The Healing Sun: Sunlight and Health in the 21st Century which gives a medical and more in-depth perspective on solar charging the body.
